An interesting history of bike activism in Portland.
Oddly, although the posted date is listed as 2003, the author completely neglects Bike Summer (August 2002). Bike Summer was promulgated by many folks who were disillusioned by the drama surrounding Critical Mass and the Police's reaction. It was put on by all the individuals who chose to lead a ride, organize an event, or host a breakfast (on the bridge).
Bike Summer was arguably the moment that Bike Culture (as opposed to bike activism) began to blossom in Portland to a significant extent.
